The Conroe Courier reported MCABW's ribbon cutting with the headline:  Women's Business Association Starts in County. By Deborah Rowe, Contributing Writer.

The Association had its first official meeting on August 16, 2005 at the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce.  According to Carol Gooch, founder of MCABW, approximately 60 members were in attendance.

Gooch said she wanted to start a networking group that was an individual nonprofit organization for Montgomery County, not one that was a charter of a national organization.  She is also a member of several national organizations, such as the American Business Women's Association, the National Association of Female Executives and the American Association of University Women.

Gooch explained, "With MCABW, we are our own entity, with our own rules and regulations."

Gooch said she will have guest speakers come and give presentations on various topics, like attitude, health and nutrition, and finances.

She said one of the reasons for the inception of MCABW is the increase of women in the workforce looking for a forum to increase and augment relationships with their peers.

"More women have come to the forefront of business for several reasons," she said.  "There are more single moms out there needing to support their children, and there are women who are pursuing careers later in life; for example, baby boomers.  This is why we are getting so many women interested in women's organizations."

Gooch said the Association offers an excellent support system, which is critical to networking success.  She said having approximately 60 people at a first networking meeting was an unusually high number.  She believes membership will climb to around 100 in six months, and maybe even reach 200 people in a year.

The officers of MCABW are: Gooch, president/executive director; Pat Brandt, vice president; Stephanne Laviolette, executive secretary, and Vera Ann Davis, treasurer.

The luncheon meetings will be the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Incredible Pizza in Conroe from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Dues are $50 annually.
